It is always fun to see fun and refreshing Metroid Vania. While playing Stellar Poetry I really felt the inspiration from elden ring and hollow knight. But don’t worry as it did not feel too obvious and they really made it their own touch.

I think the points that made me like stellar poetry that much was its fluidity. Like seriously, the game was so fluid, the animation, the UI, everything looked so smooth. It may sound silly, but i promise that with the number of game I have showcased, there were SO MANY with laggy or buggy UI.

I likes the inspirations a lot too ! The “crest” system was super interesting with mechanics that you usually don’t see in other games. Not many times have I seen build that revolve around getting hit in a Metroid Vania.

The whole elden ring inspiration was also very well integrated. There is a character that guides us and who explains the lore to us when we rest at bonfires. There are also A LOT of different upgrades and buff systems. Some may argue that it is a bit too much but I cleared the demo without really tinkering nor understand much of it.

After all the upgrades and stuff let’s talk about the complexity. The game itself was pretty well designed. You have your tutorial area when you spawn, then gets released in the forest part of the map and this is where the fun starts. It is time to jump everywhere, explore hit walls to find secrets and fight small monsters to get crystals. The crystals were used as the currency in the game allowing to buy items and some upgrades. There seemed to have an upgrade mechanic that would simplify the game with a currency that you only get when you die. I thought it was pretty clever and cool for less experiences gamers who may die a lot. Experienced player can just farm that currency if they desire to have it.

I think that the game being very nice still has a small issue [AND THIS IS ONLY A PERSONAL PREFERENCE]. The boss design. The game being from a Chinese studio has most of its boss just being big boobies hot girl. It doesn’t really suit me personally, where in Metroid Vanias, I like eldritch monsters a bit more. But hey it is a difference in culture which I am able to overlook considering how promising the game looks.

You definitely want to test it by yourself if you like challenges, Metroid Vania and nice art styles!
